The Rhodes College baseball team defeated Huntingdon College this afternoon 7-5 in Montgomery, AL. The Lynx scored 5 in the top of the second, before Huntingdon put up two in the bottom of the second and third. The score stayed 5-4 until the Lynx put up a single run in the top of the seventh and ninth. Huntingdon scored once in the bottom of the ninth. Senior Andy Holt picked up his second win of the season and junior Max Gertz picked up his first save of the season.
Senior Andy Holt worked 5 1/3 innings enroute to his second victory of the year. Holt struck out 7, walked 4, and allowed 4 runs. Senior Charles Simmons relieved Holt with one out in the bottom of the sixth with runners on first and second. Simmons only needed four pitches to get the double play to get out of the inning. Freshman Austin Carden worked the seventh, eigth, and 1/3 of the ninth before giving way to junior Max Gertz. Carden struck out one, surendered 4 hits and one run. Gertz made quick work of Huntingdon striking out the first hitter he faced and then got a groundout to end the game.
The Lynx offense was paced by Senior SS J.R. Bizzell who was 3-5 with a double, RBI, and run scored. Sophomore 3B Brent Lindsey was 2-5 on the day with a RBI and run scored. Sophomore C Matt Frank was 1-3 with a double, 2 RBIs, and run scored. Freshman CF Travis Perkins was 1-4 with a double, 2 RBIs, and scored a run.
Rhodes will take on Huntingdon tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 to finish out the two game road trip.
